VELVET SAM has its origin back in 1912 in Kharkiv. Our first founder Volodymyr Golovatyn, energetic and ambitious young man, started a small perfumery. From the very beginning it was crystal clear this was his lifework, something he would always do with love and passion. Unfortunately, when the Soviet Union started, as many other young people at that time, he had to leave his homeland and immigrate. 

This way he spent most of his life in Provence, France. There he started a new life, got married, his kids were born.

France became his second home, which he really loved and gave him outstanding opportunities. But the idea of returning to Ukraine and fulfilling his youth dream, which he had been deprived of, was always on his mind. Now he could do it on a totally different level with the expertise and experience. This could be 1000% the business of his dream. Unfortunately, he passed away without doing it. But always shared the idea and experience with his grandson Denis, who has grown up to be a perfumer in his veins and has always been excited about grandfather’s idea.

In 2000 Denis moved to Kharkiv and started building the new future. He opened VELVET SAM perfumery in the same area, where his grandfather first started. The whole place had the scent of youth, bold dreams, passion and deep love of life. This inspired him to make the new capital of perfumery in Kharkiv. In 2017 Denis managed to attract foreign investment, which helped to succeed with what you can admire today. VELVET SAM is already not just about creating the best perfumes, it is more about building the new perfumery industry in Ukraine, giving opportunities to grow for the most talented perfumers from all over the country.
